Meeting of Defence Minister's, 26 and 27 June 2019

The first session will be in the format of Nuclear Planning Group, followed by discussion about Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty, e.g. INF Treaty, and implications it’s potential suspension will have on the Alliance. First day will conclude with working dinner with Finland, Sweden and European Union on emerging and disruptive technologies.

The first session of the second day will be devoted to Alliance’s deterrence and defence posture and burden sharing. Ministers’ attention will be especially focused on the implementation of NATO Readiness initiative, Enablement Alliance’s reinforced Maritime Posture and other relevant work stands. Ministers will also endorse NATO’s overarching Space Policy.. Ministerial will end with the session in the Resolute support mission format, with our operational partners, where Afghan defence minister as well as representatives of EU, UN and World Bank will also be present.

At the margins of the Ministerial, Minister of Defence Karl Erjavec will attend traditional ministers meeting in the format of contributing nations to the multinational battalions of enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia and an Informal Defence Ministers meeting of the countries participating in the German lead Framework Nations Concept.

After NATO Defence Ministerial’s formal conclusion the sixth meeting of the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS will be held. Ministers will discuss progress made and future plans of the coalition.
